Review Process
Jurnal Rekam Medis dan Manajemen Informasi Kesehatan (JURMIK) is committed to maintaining the quality, integrity, objectivity, and academic standards of all manuscripts considered for publication. All manuscripts submitted to JURMIK undergo an editorial assessment and peer review process before a final publication decision is made. JURMIK applies a double-blind peer review process. The identities of authors are not disclosed to reviewers, and the identities of reviewers are not disclosed to authors throughout the peer review process.
The review process consists of the following stages:
1. Manuscript Submission
Authors submit their manuscripts through the JURMIK online submission system. Submitted manuscripts must comply with the journal's Author Guidelines and Submission Requirements. The submission of a manuscript indicates that the work is original, has not been previously published, and is not under consideration for publication elsewhere.
2. Technical and Administrative Check
Upon submission, the editorial team conducts an initial technical and administrative assessment to ensure the manuscript meets the journal's basic requirements. This assessment may include:
- Completeness of manuscript files;
- Compliance with the journal's manuscript format and submission requirements;
- Completeness of author information and declarations;
Identification of ethical approval or informed consent, where applicable;
- Initial similarity or plagiarism screening;
- Compliance with anonymization requirements for double-anonymous peer review.
Manuscripts that do not meet the basic submission requirements may be returned to the authors for revision before further editorial consideration.
3. Editorial Screening
After passing the initial technical check, the manuscript is evaluated by the Editor-in-Chief or an assigned Handling Editor/Section Editor. The editorial screening considers, but is not limited to:
- Relevance to the journal's aims and scope;
- Originality and scientific contribution;
- Methodological appropriateness;
- Clarity and quality of presentation;
- Ethical compliance;
- Overall suitability for peer review.
At this stage, the editor may decide that the manuscript is not suitable for publication in JURMIK. Such manuscripts may be rejected without external peer review (desk rejection). A decision to reject a manuscript at this stage does not necessarily indicate deficiencies in the research but may reflect insufficient alignment with the journal's scope, priorities, or editorial standards.
4. Reviewer Selection and Invitation
Manuscripts that pass the editorial screening are assigned to at least two independent reviewers with relevant expertise in the subject area. Reviewers are selected based on their academic expertise, research experience, and suitability to evaluate the manuscript objectively. Reviewers are expected to declare any potential conflict of interest before accepting a review assignment. Reviewers with conflicts that may compromise their objectivity will not be assigned to evaluate the manuscript. The confidentiality and integrity of the review process are maintained throughout the evaluation.
5. Double-Anonymous Peer Review (double-blind peer review)
JURMIK uses a double-blind peer review model. Authors and reviewers remain anonymous to each other during the review process. Reviewers are requested to evaluate the manuscript objectively and constructively based on relevant scientific criteria, including:
- Originality and novelty;
- Relevance to the journal's scope;
- Scientific significance and contribution;
- Clarity of research objectives;
- Appropriateness and rigor of the methodology;
- Validity and interpretation of results;
- Quality of discussion and conclusions;
- Accuracy and relevance of references;
- Ethical considerations;
- Clarity, organization, and academic quality of the manuscript.
Reviewers may recommend one of the following decisions: Accept, Minor Revision, Major Revision, and Reject. Reviewer recommendations are advisory. The final editorial decision remains the responsibility of the Editor.
6. Editorial Decision
Based on the reviewers' comments and recommendations, the assigned editor evaluates the manuscript and makes an editorial recommendation or decision. Possible editorial decisions include:
a. Accept: The manuscript is accepted for publication, subject to final editorial and production checks.
b. Minor Revision: The manuscript requires limited revisions before further consideration.
c. Major Revision: The manuscript requires substantial revision and may undergo further editorial or peer review evaluation.
d. Reject: The manuscript is not considered suitable for publication in JURMIK.
Where reviewer comments substantially differ, or where additional expertise is required, the editor may invite an additional reviewer before making a final decision.
7. Revision by Authors
Authors receiving a revision decision are required to submit: A revised manuscript; and A detailed response to the reviewers' and editors' comments. Authors should clearly explain how each comment has been addressed. If a recommendation cannot be implemented, authors should provide a clear and scientifically justified explanation.
Revised manuscripts may be returned to the original reviewers or evaluated directly by the editor, depending on the nature and extent of the revisions.
8. Final Decision
The final publication decision is made by the Editor-in-Chief or the authorized editorial representative, based on:
- The results of editorial evaluation;
- Reviewer comments and recommendations;
- The authors' responses and revisions;
- The scientific quality and integrity of the manuscript;
- Compliance with JURMIK's editorial and ethical policies.
The final decision may include acceptance, further revision, or rejection.
9. Production and Publication
Accepted manuscripts proceed to the production stage, which may include copyediting, proofreading, layout preparation, metadata checking, and final author proof approval. The manuscript is published after completing the required editorial and production processes in accordance with JURMIK's publication schedule.
Confidentiality and Conflict of Interest
JURMIK treats all submitted manuscripts as confidential documents. Editors and reviewers must not disclose, distribute, or use unpublished information contained in submitted manuscripts for personal or professional advantage.
