Publication Ethics
Jurnal Rekam Medis dan Manajemen Informasi Kesehatan (JURMIK) is committed to maintaining the highest standards of publication ethics and academic integrity. The journal expects all parties involved in the publication process-including the Publisher, Editors, Reviewers, and Authors-to uphold ethical principles and professional responsibilities throughout the editorial and publication process.
Fundamental Principles of Publication Ethics
JURMIK is guided by the following fundamental principles:
1. Neutrality
All editorial and publication decisions must be made objectively and independently, free from conflicts of interest or undue influence.
2. Fairness
All authors must be treated fairly and without discrimination. Editorial decisions must be based solely on the scholarly merit, originality, relevance, and quality of the submitted manuscript.
3. Honesty and Academic Integrity
All parties involved in the publication process must uphold honesty and integrity and must not engage in plagiarism, duplicate publication, fabrication, falsification, or any other form of research or publication misconduct.
Ethical Approval and Ethical Clearance
JURMIK requires authors to ensure that research involving human participants, patients, medical records, personal health information, or other sensitive data has been conducted in accordance with applicable ethical principles and regulations.
Ethical Approval
For studies requiring ethical review, authors must obtain ethical approval from an authorized Ethics Committee or Institutional Review Board before conducting the research. Authors must include the following information in the manuscript: Name of the Ethics Committee or Institution; Ethical approval or clearance number; and A statement confirming that the study was conducted in accordance with applicable ethical standards.
Example:
Ethics Approval: This study was approved by the [Name of Ethics Committee] (Approval No. [XXXX]).
Informed Consent
When applicable, authors must obtain informed consent from research participants. The manuscript should include a statement confirming that informed consent was obtained.
Studies Not Requiring Ethical Approval
Some studies may not require formal ethical approval, depending on the nature of the research and applicable regulations. In such cases, authors must clearly state the reason why ethical approval was not required.
Example:
Ethics Approval: Ethical approval was not required because this study was based on publicly available and anonymized data.
Protection of Privacy and Confidentiality
For studies involving medical records or health information, authors must protect the privacy and confidentiality of participants. Personal or identifiable information must not be disclosed without appropriate authorization or consent. The Editors may request ethical approval documents or additional information during the editorial process. Manuscripts that do not meet applicable ethical requirements may be returned, rejected, or subject to further editorial review.
The Four Pillars of Scientific Publication
The publication process at JURMIK is supported by four main stakeholders:
1. Publisher
The Publisher is responsible for establishing publication policies and programs, facilitating the work of Editors and Reviewers, respecting editorial independence, and ensuring that all published content adheres to ethical standards. The Publisher is also responsible for ensuring that sponsorship arrangements, partnerships, and third-party involvement do not improperly influence editorial decisions, peer review, publication policies, or academic independence.
2. Editors
Editors are responsible for managing the editorial process and making publication decisions based on the scientific merit and relevance of submitted manuscripts. Editors are expected to ensure fairness, confidentiality, objectivity, and the integrity of the editorial and peer-review process. Editors must protect manuscripts from unauthorized access, misuse, manipulation, or inappropriate disclosure.
3. Reviewers
Reviewers play an essential role in maintaining the scientific quality of published articles. They are responsible for evaluating manuscripts objectively, confidentially, and constructively based on their expertise. Reviewers assess the scientific quality, originality, methodology, accuracy of data and references, validity of conclusions, and overall contribution of the manuscript.
4. Authors
Authors are responsible for ensuring the originality, accuracy, integrity, and ethical conduct of their work. Authors are expected to respond appropriately to comments and recommendations provided by Editors and Reviewers.
